A land returned to

Adega d’Arrocha: tradition, elegance and the Atlantic Ocean

Born In Fonte Lima, near Lourinhã, a family’s connection to the land has taken root in the vineyards. After decades working at sea, José Paulo Rato returned home in 2010 with the desire to honour his father’s legacy and revitalise the family vineyard. The result is Adega D’Arrocha — a modern winery rooted in tradition, currently run by José Paulo, his wife Helena, their children and winemaker Ricardo Guimarães.

The first wines were produced in 2018, in the old winery once used by José Paulo’s father. A few years later, increased production demanded something bigger. The new winery was inaugurated in 2021, combining elegant architecture with respect for the environment: wind is used to circulate air, water is reused and gravity aids the winemaking process.

With its Atlantic-influenced climate, clay and sandy soils and more than twenty hectares of vineyards, Adega D’Arrocha produces elegant, mineral-rich wines using both native and international grape varieties.

Visitors are invited to explore the estate through a series of tasting experiences, each accompanied by regional delicacies. Options range from simple guided tastings and vineyard picnics to a rare opportunity to compare wines aged in the cellar with others that have matured for six months at the bottom of the sea.

Whether you come for the wine, the view or the history behind it all — evoked in the interior décor — Adega D’Arrocha offers an experience as generous as the land it celebrates.
