The Municipality of Loures hosted, on the 20th of October, the official ceremony of the Commemoration of the National Day of the Lines of Torres Vedras, which was celebrated for the 8th consecutive year.
The first moment took place at the Tomás Noivo Auditorium, in Bucelas, with a welcome session by the President of the Parish Council of Bucelas, Hélio Santos.
Next, took place the 2nd edition of the Wellington Honour Awards, which distinguish entities that stand out in the promotion and dissemination of the region, culture and heritage of the Lines of Torres Vedras.

The closing speech of the first moment was given by the President of the Direction of the Historical Route of the Lines of Torres Vedras, José Alberto Quintino.
The ceremony proceeded to the pleasant space of Caves Velhas, in Bucelas, where the concert by the group Ensemble Vocal Introitus and the drink “Bucelas de Honra” took place, in this “Capital of the Arinto” which, in the 19th century, sharpened the palate of the invaders.
The Ensemble Vocal Introitus integrates soloist elements from various vocal groups, notably the Coro Gulbenkian and Coro Gregoriano de Lisboa. Its founding members first met at the beginning of their musical training, working together ever since and achieving, therefore, a high timbre fusion.
The program covered several “Battle Songs”: Divine Protection, The Farewell and the Battles: Third Crusade (12th century), Battle of Agincourt | Hundred Years' War (14th-15th century), Battle of Alcácer-Quibir (16th century), War of the Spanish Succession (18th century) and the French Invasions (19th century).
The closing speech of the ceremony was given by the Vice-President of the Municipality of Loures and President of the General Assembly of the Historical Route of the Lines of Torres, Sónia Paixão.

The exhibition is on display at the Interpretation Centre of the Lines of Torres Vedras, in Sobral de Monte Agraço, until March 31, 2023, as part of the exhibition INVASIONS - A new way of learning history, created by ModelStep.
This temporary exhibition includes four models, or dioramas, that deserve a close look, namely: the Battle of Sobral, which took place in the village between the Allied troops and the French troops of the VIII Corps, commanded by Jean-Andoche Junot; Forte da Caneira, which covered the road from Santo Quintino to the places of Caneira and Pontes de Monfalim; one of the ten Optical Communications Stations on the Lines; and the setting of an artillery piece.
The dioramas on display are based on an artistic and three-dimensional model that allows a better interpretation of historical places and events.
According to ModelStep, “Capturing the attention of young people to our history is to let them observe, focus and imagine. Dioramas have the ability to make you stop, look, learn”.
The Historical Route of the Lines of Torres Vedras participated, at the invitation of the Directorate of Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Brazilian Army (DPHCEx), in the XIII Meeting of the Cultural System of the Army, under the theme "Between Forts and Museums: the state of the art of Military Cultural Tourism ", which took place in Salvador - Bahia, between October 17th and 21st, 2023.
At the meeting, the work carried out by the Historical Route of the Lines of Torres Vedras in safeguarding, valuing and disseminating the historical-military heritage of the Lines of Torres Vedras, as well as its contribution to boosting Portuguese Military Tourism, was presented. The presentation referred to the set of fortifications located on the Lisbon peninsula and their interrelationships with the tourist, cultural and economic agents of the territory, in the construction of a sustainable tourist product that was considered by DPHCEx as a vector of inspiration to empower the Brazilian forts as tourism resources.
This was, therefore, a moment of national awareness (Brazil) of the strategic and pertinent importance of developing responsible and sustainable products, projects and actions that combine Heritage and Tourism.
The meeting was attended by military and civil entities from Brazil, namely the Department of Education and Culture of the Army, the Command of the 6th Military Region, the Heritage and Cultural Projects Section of DPHCEx, the National Institute for Historical and Artistic Heritage, the Command of the Superior School of War of the Ministry of Defence, the Head of Education and Culture of the Joint General Staff of the Armed Forces, the Secretariats of Culture and Tourism of Salvador and Bahia, the Fluminense Federal University, the University of the State of Bahia, the Historical-Cultural Institute of Aeronautics, the Aerospace Museum, the Naval Museum of Rio de Janeiro, the Military Museum of the Southern Command, the History Museum of the Army and Forte de Copacabana, Military Museum of Forte do Brum, among many others.

The meeting included technical visits to the Historical Centre of Salvador, the Museum of Gastronomy, the Museum Cidade da Música da Bahia, the Mercado Modelo and the city's forts.
In addition to moments of sharing between entities and professionals who develop Military Tourism, in their different areas of work, the meeting provided enriching moments of good practices applied in museums and monuments in Brazil, and the challenges associated with operationalization in the territory and recognition of Military tourism as a segment of tourist activity.
