André Manz, a great enthusiast of Portuguese wines, soon realized the great tradition and potential of the Lines of Torres Vedras region to produce quality wines. He decided to buy a small vineyard to make wine for himself without commercial purposes, but when the winemakers found 200 baskets of the almost extinct jampal grape there, he realized he was facing something quite rare and unique. The result surprised everyone by the quality and exclusivity of the wine.
The Manzwine project is unique due to the history and tradition of the village of Cheleiros, as well as to the recovery of the jampal vine variety, an almost extinct grape that we use in the production of Dona Fátima, the only wine in the world 100% jampal.
In 2008 André Manz founded ManzWine, today a nationally and internationally awarded boutique winery, with two of its wines among the 50 best Portuguese wines and the target of excellent reviews worldwide.
In addition to the production of premium wines, the ManzWine project aims to bring back to life the almost forgotten village of Cheleiros, just 30 minutes from Lisbon. To this end, it has been recovering buildings linked to the history of the village, such as the old primary school and an old wine press, where today the ManzWine barrel room and its shop / museum are located.
